As the Dodgers’ pitching rotation faltered during their 10-game away stint due to injuries sustained by Julio Urias and Dustin May, Bobby Miller’s performance emerged as a silver lining. The team felt the repercussions of these injuries, testing the limits of their pitching depth and exhausting an already overworked bullpen.

Nevertheless, the Dodgers discovered a beacon of hope in their rookie right-hander, Bobby Miller. With his impressive 6-foot-5, 220-pound frame, Miller delivered six solid innings in his major league debut during the Dodgers’ convincing 6-1 victory over the Washington Nationals on Memorial Day.

A first-round draft pick from Louisville in 2020, Miller pitched six innings, surrendering just one run on four hits and one walk while throwing 87 pitches, with 54 being strikes. This outstanding performance was against a Nationals team that leads the National League in hitting.

Continued Success

In his most recent start, Miller delivered an outstanding performance, allowing only one hit and two walks while keeping the heavy-hitting New York Yankees team scoreless for six innings.

After a rough first inning where he walked two, Miller quickly regained control and didn’t allow a hit until the fifth inning. Miller struck out seven batters, including an impressive 11 strikeouts with his slider alone, marking the first time he achieved double-digit whiffs at the Major League Baseball (MLB) level.

In three MLB starts, Miller has showcased remarkable consistency and skill. He boasts an impressive stat line of 16 strikeouts to only four walks, exhibiting excellent command on the mound. Additionally, he has maintained an exceptional 1.06 earned run average (ERA) across 17 innings pitched. Looking ahead, Miller’s next start is scheduled in Philadelphia.

Rookie of the Year

Arizona Diamondback outfielder Corbin Carroll has become the overwhelming favorite to win the National League Rookie of the Year Award at +100 (via Shark Casino) over James Outman, who was the early favorite after winning National League Rookie of the Month in April. Outman has experienced a significant decline in his odds, mirroring his decline in performance.

As Outman’s odds lengthen, Elly De La Cruz’s odds, which were as high as +2000 on Monday, have significantly improved and are +1000 at the time of this writing. De La Cruz made his MLB debut on Tuesday, starting at third base for the Cincinnati Reds and batted cleanup. He’ll have a lot of ground to make up this season, but with about 100 games left, he should have enough runway to compete.

Like De La Cruz, Bobby Miller’s chances are longer due to how many starts he’s likely to get for the Dodgers, but he’s still an intriguing pick at +3000.
