Astros’ Josh Reddick: Home Run ‘Felt Really, Really Good’ Because He Wasn’t ‘Appreciated’ With Dodgers

Looking to lengthen their starting rotation and provide a spark in their outfield, the Los Angeles Dodgers addressed both needs by acquiring Rich Hill and Josh Reddick at the non-waiver trade deadline in 2016.

Hill didn’t debut for the Dodgers until more than three weeks after the trade, and the club has to cautiously monitor his trouble with blisters for the remainder of the season. Meanwhile, Reddick was immediately inserted into the lineup, but his production was inconsistent.

He went 0-for-15 before collecting his first hit with the Dodgers. Reddick’s first RBI didn’t come until Aug. 31.

He drew the ire of the Dodgers fanbase, as many who sat in the right field pavilion at Dodger Stadium called for Yasiel Puig’s return from Triple-A Oklahoma City. Reddick went on to sign with the Houston Astros prior to the 2017 season.

He’s been showered with boos in each visit to Dodger Stadium since that point, which Reddick said made his home run Saturday night all the more enjoyable, via Brian McTaggart of MLB.com:

“I’d be lying if I didn’t say it felt really, really good. You’re coming to a place where, one, you weren’t really appreciated and liked as a home player. And then you come here (as a road player) and you get booed tremendously. To do something like that, not only that, but to beat a team like that, is going to feel great. It felt really amazing to put that little good swing on it and kind of get a little more boos out of it. Any time they’re booing me on that, I’m happy.”

Reddick’s three-run home run came off Zac Rosscup in the eighth inning to extend the Astros’ lead to 12-0. He finished the night 3-for-5, also adding a double. Reddick went hitless in the series opener.

Reddick previously was outspoken about his feelings towards Dodgers fans during the World Series by saying he was seeking retribution for their treatment while he was with the club.
