The Los Angeles Dodgers entered the 2020 season with one of their deepest rosters in recent memory, highlighted by reigning National League MVP Cody Bellinger and offseason acquisition Mookie Betts.

The club was flush with All-Star caliber players at virtually every position, including Corey Seager at shortstop. Finally healthy and full recovered from Tommy John and hip surgeries, the 26-year-old enjoyed a career year at the plate.

Appearing in 52 games, Seager hit .307/.358/.585 with 15 home runs, 38 runs scored and 41 RBI. He continued to shine in the postseason, batting .328 with four doubles, eight home runs, 20 runs scored and 20 RBI en route to MVP honors in both the National League Championship Series and World Series.

Seager is in the final year of salary arbitration before potentially reaching free agency at the end of the 2021 season. Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman is hopeful he will remain with the organization for the longterm, via Pedro Moura of The Athletic:

“Corey has been a big part of what we’ve accomplished in the last five years. Our hope is he’s a big part of our future. But, obviously, he’s focused on having as good of a 2021 season as he can, as are we. We’ll figure that out when the time is right.”

While the Dodgers may have every intention to work out a new contract with Seager, he is currently on track to be part of a historic 2021 free-agent shortstop class that also includes Francisco Lindor, Carlos Correa and Trevor Story.

The Dodgers have been linked to Lindor quite a bit over the years and previously were deemed the favorites to acquire him if the Cleveland Indians look to trade him.

Seager among Dodgers named to 2020 All-MLB Team

In the wake of a fantastic season, Seager was one of three Dodgers named to the 2020 All-MLB Team, along with Clayton Kershaw and Betts.

Seager also earned a ninth-place finish in NL MVP voting this season, which marked his first time getting votes since 2017.
