2025 MLB Draft Pick Sam Horn Planning To Play Football At Missouri Despite Signing With Dodgers

The Los Angeles Dodgers signed 19 of their 21 selections in the 2025 MLB Draft ahead of the July 28 deadline, including 17th-round pick Sam Horn.

Horn was one of the more intriguing pitching prospects in this year’s class despite throwing only 15 innings across three seasons at the University of Missouri. He missed all of 2024 while recovering from Tommy John surgery but returned this year and posted a 4.22 ERA in five abbreviated starts.

The Dodgers were able to secure a commitment from Horn by offering him a signing bonus of $497,500, largely due in part to maximizing their bonus pool space.

As part of the signing agreement, the Dodgers are allowing Horn to pursue playing quarterback for the Tigers this fall. It’s an opportunity Horn is looking forward to, per Jared Hamilton of 247 Sports:

“Yeah, they were fully transparent with what was going on,” Horn said. “Obviously, with my situation, they weren’t 100% sure what was going on. So, I totally get it, and they want to do what’s best for the team. And so do I. So, we’re here to compete and win games.”

Horn appeared in four games for Mizzou from 2022-2023 and attempted only eight passes while serving as the backup quarterback. He has two years of college eligibility left and will be competing with Penn State transfer Beau Pribula for the starting job this season.

While he is still passionate about football, Horn could very well have a future in baseball due to his deceptive delivery and upper 90s fastball.

The 21-year-old was ranked 128th in MLB Pipeline’s prospect rankings for the 2025 MLB Draft.

Sam Horn’s baseball college career

In parts of two seasons with the Tigers, Horn allowed five runs and 10 hits across 15 innings pitched. He collected 20 strikeouts and walked 11 batters.
