2025 MLB All-Star Game Starters: Freddie Freeman Voted National League First Baseman

Freddie Freeman is going to represent the Los Angeles Dodgers among the 2025 MLB All-Star Game starters as the first baseman for the National League team.

It was an expected outcome as Freeman was comfortably ahead of the New York Mets’ Pete Alonso in both All-Star Game voting updates. They both reached Phase 2 of voting, when totals reset and fans determined All-Star Game starters from respective finalists at each position.

Will Smith (catcher), Tommy Edman (second base), Max Muncy (third base), Mookie Betts (shortstop), Teoscar Hernández (outfield) and Andy Pages (outfield) were Dodgers who also advanced as All-Star Game finalists.

Shohei Ohtani earned the automatic starting spot as designated hitter by virtue of receiving the most votes for any NL player in Phase 1.

The All-Star Game selection is Freeman’s ninth of his career and fifth in a row. He’s now been an All-Star in all four seasons with the Dodgers (second as a starter). The Dodgers signed Freeman to a six-year, $172 million contract in March 2022.

Furthermore, Freeman is an All-Star Game starter for the fifth time overall and second in the last three years. Freeman and Steve Garvey are the only Dodgers first basemen to be voted a starter in MLB All-Star Game history.

Freeman previously won the fan election to start in the Midsummer Classic for the Atlanta Braves in 2018, 2019 and 2021, and with the Dodgers in 2023.

Freddie Freeman wanted All-Star Game start in Atlanta

Freeman spent the first 12 years of his career with the Braves, during which he received five All-Star selections. The prospect of being the starting first baseman for the NL team this year was one Freeman acknowledged held added sentimental value due to the game being in Atlanta.

“That would be pretty cool to go there and represent the Dodgers in the All-Star Game, especially with our coaching staff being the coaching staff for the All-Star team. I think that’s pretty special,” he told David Vassegh.

“So if we can get as many guys there as possible, that would be pretty cool. Obviously, in the park I saw being built and spent a lot of time there, that would definitely be pretty cool.”

The Braves are hosting an All-Star Game for the first time since 2000, when it was played at Turner Field. They were awarded the 2021 All-Star Game but MLB moved it to Coors Field in response to concerns over a Georgia voting law disproportionately impacting minorities.

The Braves franchise has previously hosted All-Star festivities in Boston in 1936, and in Milwaukee in 1955 before moving to Atlanta for the 1966 season.
