The Los Angeles Dodgers selected Charles Davalan out of Arkansas with their second pick, No. 41 overall in the 2025 MLB Draft. The Dodgers also made a selection at No. 40, so it marked their second consecutive draft choice.
The No. 41 pick came as part of their return for trading Gavin Lux to the Cincinnati Reds in January. The Dodgers previously picked at No. 41 in the Draft two other times.
The slot value of the pick is worth $2,386,900.
Davalan was ranked No. 54 on MLB Pipeline’s MLB Draft prospect list. The left-handed hitting outfielder projects to have a strong hit tool with solid power, running ability and good defense.
During the 2025 season, Davalan hit .346/.433/.561 with 14 home runs, 60 RBI, 71 runs scored and 10 stolen bases across 65 games.
The Dodgers’ bonus pool to sign their drafted prospects for the 2025 MLB Draft is $9,031,300, which ranks 24th among all teams. Though, that also is their second-largest total under the current system that has been in place since 2012.
Bonus pools are calculated by adding the slot values of every pick through the first 10 rounds. Any signing bonus amount more than $125,000 for draft picks after the 10th round also count against the pool money.
Consequences for exceeding that allotment include a 75% tax on any overage amount that is up to 5% over the pool. If a team goes over the 5% threshold, they will lose their first-round pick in the next draft.
Dodgers selected Zach Root at pick No. 40
The Dodgers first pick at No. 40 overall was moved back 10 spots from their original slot at No. 30 as a result of the team exceeding the second luxury tax threshold during the 2024 season.
With that pick, they selected Zach Root, also out of Arkansas. The left-handed pitcher was ranked as the No. 42 prospect by MLB Pipeline.
