The MLB All-Star Game starters for the National League and American League were announced on Wednesday after fan voting portion concluded, with Shohei Ohtani being the only Los Angeles Dodgers player to make the cut.

A year after the Dodgers tied with the Atlanta Braves for the most starters on the NL team with three, they saw Mookie Betts and Teoscar Hernández ultimately fall short in Phase 2 voting for the 2024 All-Star Game.

Betts, despite being unavailable for the Midsummer Classic because of a fractured hand, was narrowly beaten out by Trea Turner who won 51% of the vote at shortstop. Hernández slipped from third to fourth place, with Fernando Tatis Jr. overcoming him late in an extremely tight race.

Ohtani gets the starting nod as the NL’s designated hitter, which is good for his fourth career All-Star selection. They have all come consecutively, with the previous three being on the AL side. Ohtani was also named the starting pitcher, in addition to DH, for the AL in 2021.

It is also the second straight season that the starting DH for the NL came from the Dodgers, with J.D. Martinez earning the spot last year.

Joining Ohtani in the lineup for the NL will be William Contreras, Bryce Harper, Ketel Marte, Turner, Alec Bohm, Christian Yelich, Tatis Jr. and Profar.

The Philadelphia Phillies lead the way in both the NL and MLB as a whole with three All-Star selections, while the San Diego Padres and Milwaukee Brewers are right behind them with two each. The Arizona Diamondbacks joined the Dodgers with just a single representative.

Leading the way for the AL is New York Yankees superstar Aaron Judge, who was MLB’s overall leading vote-getter in Phase 1. Judge is joined by teammate Juan Soto, who was named a starter for the first time in his career despite making four straight All-Star Game Appearances.

The AL starters are pretty evenly distributed, with the Yankees, Cleveland Guardians, Houston Astros and Baltimore Orioles having two nominees each.

Another pair of superstars from the AL East join the roster, with Orioles youngsters Adley Rutschman and Gunnar Henderson both being first-time starters.

The Guardians have a newcomer and veteran of the event in Steven Kwan and José Ramírez, respectively. Kwan’s first All-Star selection comes as a starter, and Ramírez earned his first start in his sixth time at the Midsummer Classic.

José Altuve and Yordan Álvarez from the Astros are the final pair of selections for the AL roster. Álvarez earns his first starting nod at the DH position now that Ohtani has switched leagues.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. rounds out the team for the AL as the only starter to make it from the Toronto Blue Jays.

The remaining 23 spots for each team will be filled by a mix of pitchers and reserves. They will be determined through a combination of voting by the players and selections made by the Commissioner’s Office.

Full All-Star Game rosters will be announced on Sunday, July 7, at 2:30 p.m. PT on ESPN.

The 94th edition of the Midsummer Classic airs nationally on Fox Sports at 5 p.m. on July 16.
