The 2024 ESPYS are Thursday night at The Dolby Theatre, and the Los Angeles Dodgers could be among the winners as Shohei Ohtani is nominated for the Best Male athlete in men’s sports category.

Ohtani’s competition for the award is Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, PGA Tour star Scottie Scheffler, and Connor McDavid of the NHL’s Edmonton Oilers.

Mahomes and Ohtani are both in the running to join LeBron James, Lance Armstrong and Tiger Woods as the only athletes to win for “Best Athlete, Men’s Sports” multiple times. Ohtani additionally is up for “Best MLB Player.”

Voting for the 2024 ESPYS closes at 2 p.m. PT on Thursday.

Ohtani’s past year included becoming MLB’s first player to ever win two MVP Awards in unanimous fashion, and signing a record-breaking $700 million contract with the Dodgers.

Ohtani’s first Dodgers season has seen him earn another All-Star Game selection and break multiple franchise records.

How to watch The ESPYS

The awards show is scheduled to air live at 5 p.m. on ABC. Serena Williams is hosting the ESPYS for the first time.

“I couldn’t be more excited to host The ESPYS,” Williams in a statement. “This is a dream come true for me, and something I’ve wanted to do for as long as I can remember. It has been a sensational year for sports and an unprecedented one for female athletes. I can’t wait to celebrate everyone on-stage in July.”

Top celebrities from sports and entertainment are coming together to celebrate the past year in sports by recognizing athletic achievements, reliving unforgettable moments, and saluting the leading performers and performances.

Each year The ESPYS help raise awareness and funds for the V Foundation for Cancer Research, the charity founded by ESPN and late basketball coach Jim Valvano. ESPN has helped raise more than $200 million for the V Foundation since The ESPYS began in 1993.

Presenters for 2024 ESPYS

Stars and athletes scheduled to present awards at this year’s ESPYS include Quinta Brunson (actress), Nikki Glaser (stand-up comedian and actress), Rob Lowe (actor), Paige Bueckers (University of Connecticut women’s basketball player), Drew Brees (NFL Hall of Famer), Draymond Green (Golden State Warriors), Bryce Young (Carolina Panthers), Lindsey Vonn (Olympic gold medalist), Flau’jae Johnson (LSU women’s basketball player), Colman Domingo (actor), GloRilla (rapper), Daisy Ridley (actress), Allyson Felix (Olympic gold medalist), Damar Hamlin (Buffalo Bills), Candace Parker (retired WNBA player), Brian Tyree Henry (actor) and more.
