The first 2023 MLB All-Star Game voting update has the Los Angeles Dodgers represented by Freddie Freeman, Mookie Betts and J.D. Martinez at their respective positions among National League leaders.

Atlanta Braves’ Ronald Acuña Jr. leads all players in the first balloting update for the 2023 All-Star Game at T-Mobile Park. His 1,086,537 votes are ahead of Los Angeles Angels two-way Star Shohei Ohtani, who otherwise leads all American League players in balloting at 924,182 votes.

Betts is tracking to join Acuña as a starting NL outfielder with 676,491 votes that rank third in the league. Betts was among the six Dodgers who represented the team in the All-Star Game at Dodger Stadium last season.

Betts has been named an All-Star six times in his career, including twice with the Dodgers.

Freeman ranks second overall in the NL with 775,503 votes. That has him well ahead of the New York Mets’ Pete Alonso (377,749) to start at first base in the 93rd Midsummer Classic. The Braves’ Matt Olson ranks third among NL first basemen with 272,275 votes.

Freeman previously started in the All-Star Game from 2018-2021, and is on track to represent the Dodgers for a second consecutive season with his seventh career selection.

Steve Garvey was the last Dodgers first baseman to start in an MLB All-Star Game via fan voting when he did so years in a row from 1974-1980.

Martinez’s 412,373 votes have him ahead of the Philadelphia Phillies’ Bryce Harper (380,345) and Braves’ Travis d’Arnaud (221,543) in the closest race among NL positional leaders.

Martinez, a five-time All-Star in the AL, last earned a start at DH in 2018 while a member of the Boston Red Sox. William Contreras of the Braves was the starting DH for the NL last year.

Although the St. Louis Cardinals’ Nolan Arenado (410,122) is the leading vote-getter among NL third basemen, the Braves’ Austin Riley (368,044) and Max Muncy (358,235) are not far behind. Muncy would be the first Dodgers third baseman to start in an All-Star Game since Ron Cey in 1977.

The Braves also have the top vote-getter at catcher in Sean Murphy (603,501). He’s followed by Will Smith (419,587), who is seeking a first career All-Star Game selection. Russell Martin in 2007 was the last Dodgers catcher to be an All-Star starter.

Miguel Vargas is fourth in voting among NL second basemen.

The Dodgers and Braves are tied for the NL lead with three projected starters each. The Toronto Blue Jays are tracking to pace the AL with three All-Star Game starters.

Phase 1 for 2023 MLB All-Star Game voting is open until 9 a.m. PT on Thursday, June 22. During Phase 1 of voting, fans may select one player for each infield position in both leagues, three outfielders and one designated hitter. A write-in space is also provided for players who are not listed on the All-Star Game ballot.
