The final day of the 2023 Los Angeles Dodgers Love L.A. Community Tour saw Yency Almonte, Tony Gonsolin, Julio Urías and a slew of other players participate in a pep rally at Whittier High School.

More than 1,700 students had an opportunity to meet the aforementioned athletes and play a variety of games with them, including finish the lyric. “We had a good time here at the high school for a pep rally,” Almonte said. “We showed up, played some games and the kids had fun.”

Almonte enjoyed being part of the competition and seeing the kids have a good time. “It was good to see competitions between the classes,” Almonte said. “They all want to win their own game, but it’s also about just being here, having a good time and having fun.”

The visit to Whittier High School was the last stop on the Dodgers’ 19th annual community service tour, which focused on giving back to fans throughout Los Angeles County. “I think it’s very important. It goes beyond baseball,” Almonte said.

“We’re going to the community and showing love to all our fans. They come out to see us, so why shouldn’t we go out and see them?”

After leaving the pep rally, some Dodgers players went to a local Jack in the Box, while the rest of the group joined additional members from the organization and front office to pay their respects to the victims from the Monterey Park mass shooting and honor first responders.

Almonte enjoyed Oreo eating contest

The day’s highlights included James Outman winning a competition of eating an Oreo by getting it from his forehead to mouth without using hands. Outman bested Phil Bickford, Michael Grove and Justin Bruihl.

“I’ve never seen that. It was funny. It was so funny,” Almonte said.

Bickford added: “I struggled with the cookie game. I kind of want to try to do that on my own to figure it out. But it’s super cool here. It brought back high school memories of being at rallies.”
