Jake Reed was well-traveled in 2022 as he pitched for three Major League clubs, including the Los Angeles Dodgers, three Minor League teams, and briefly made a stop with another franchise.

Reed began the year in the New York Mets organization, where he pitched 6.1 innings for them, two frames with the Single-A St. Lucie Mets and 11 innings for the Triple-A Brooklyn Cyclones.

The right-hander posted an 11.37 ERA with the Mets and 4.85 ERA in the Minor Leagues before he was designated for assignment in July.

The Dodgers claimed Reed off waivers from the Mets, which marked his second stint with the organization after he spent part of the 2021 season with L.A.

After joining the Dodgers, Reed was sent to Triple-A Oklahoma City before he was recalled later in the month. The then-29-year-old appeared in three games and gave up one run over 2.2 innings before he was sent back to the Minor Leagues.

A month later, Reed joined the Dodgers once again at the end of August to provide relief for an overworked pitching staff. He had spent the previous few days on the Dodgers’ taxi squad in the event that Chris Martin needed a stint on the injured list.

Reed pitched two scoreless outings, but he was designated for assignment days later when Blake Treinen was activated from the 60-day IL. Across five appearances with the Dodgers, Reed pitched to a 1.93 ERA and 1.50 WHIP.

He ended up being claimed by the Baltimore Orioles where he finished out the regular season. With Baltimore, he pitched 5.2 innings with a 6.35 ERA in eight appearances.

In total, the 30-year-old pitched 16.2 innings with a 7.02 ERA, 5.09 FIP and 1.50 FIP while striking out 16.9% of hitters and walking 10.4%.

After the regular season ended, Reed was designated for assignment by the Orioles and claimed by the Boston Red Sox. One month after being added to the Red Sox roster, he was once again designated for assignment and claimed by the Dodgers for his third stint with the organization.

Jake Reed 2022 highlight

Reed picked up his first career save on Aug. 30, which fittingly came against the Mets, as he pitched a scoreless ninth inning during a 4-3 Dodgers victory. After the game, he was overcome by emotion and expressed how happy he was for the opportunity.

2023 outlook

Now that Reed is once again with the Dodgers, he should continue to serve as organizational depth if he remains with the team. He would also be one of the top candidates to be designated for assignment if the Dodgers need to create more roster space this offseason, and it would be somewhat of a surprise if he ends the 2023 season with L.A.
