2022 Dodgers Dress-Up Day: Trea Turner As Jordan Belfort, Tony Gonsolin & Alex Vesia As Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy & More

With the Los Angeles Dodgers making their last flight of the regular season outside of California, the team returned their tradition of players, coaches and staff members dressing up for the occasion.

The dress up day has historically been reserved for rookies, but in 2019 the Dodgers expanded it to include all players before skipping it in 2020 due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

This year, Trea Turner dressed up as “Jordan Belfort,” the main character in “The Wolf of Wall Street” who inspired the team’s head tap celebration.

There’s a scene where Belfort defiantly decides to remain at his company despite an investigation by the SEC and gives an impassioned speech and includes hitting his head with a microphone. Turner purportedly has memorized the speech and on occasion reenacts it for teammates.

Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman paired up to dress as Tiger Woods and Steve Williams, who served as the golfer’s caddie from 1999-2011.

Justin Turner, Cody Bellinger, Joey Gallo and Andre Jackson dressed up as dancers from Chippendales. Bellinger and Turner both wore muscle suits, while Gallo and Jackson decided to go shirtless.

Tony Gonsolin and Alex Vesia joined to dress as “Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy,” from “Spongebob Squarepants,” while Clayton Kershaw and Tyler Anderson paired up as “Goose” and “Maverick” from “Top Gun.”

Austin Barnes made an appearance as “Mario” with Trayce Thompson dressing as “Luigi.” Brusdar Graterol gave some respect to the Los Angeles Rams and Aaron Donald by dressing as the star defensive tackle.

Dustin May draped loaves of bread around himself with a sign that says “Ginger Bread Man,” and Max Muncy went as a beer keg.

The final highlight was multiple members of the team, including Gavin Lux, Miguel Vargas and Chris Taylor, dressing up as characters from the legendary baseball movie “The Sandlot.”

Dodgers almost clinched 2022 postseason berth

It was believed with their win against the San Diego Padres on Sunday, that the Dodgers clinched a spot in the 2022 MLB postseason for the 10th consecutive season and inched ever closer to winning the National League West title for the ninth time in the past decade.

However, an MLB error did not take into account potential three- and four-team tiebreaker scenarios, and thus the Dodgers need one more win or a Milwaukee Brewers loss to officially earn a spot in the playoffs.

The Dodgers’ magic number for the NL West remains two, which means they can officially clinch the division on Tuesday at the earliest.
