The Los Angeles Dodgers began their 2024 postseason journey by overcoming a 2-1 deficit in the National League Division Series to eliminate the San Diego Padres.
The decisive Game 5 saw the Dodgers take an early lead behind Kiké Hernández’s home run in the second inning. In addition to his game-winning blast, Hernández provided some fireworks outside of the lines as well.
Hernández spoke with MLB insider Ken Rosenthal for a postgame interview on the Fox broadcast after the victory. When asked what made the 2024 Dodgers team different from others, Hernández’s response included an uncensored expletive due to the live nature of the broadcast.
While it ruffled the feathers of some, Hernández thinks the moment added some fun to the Dodgers’ postseason run because of how the fans took to it, via “The Shop”:
“There was no delay and I was on live TV, cussing and there was a lot of criticizing that. I think it made the postseason run a little more epic for the fans because they bought into that mentality and they had fun with it too.”
Hernández revelead that MLB nearly suspended him for dropping the f-bomb on live TV, but the Players Association helped get it overturned.
Hernández still had to apologize and admitted there wasn’t much sincerity behind it because the answer came from the bottom of his heart.
Hernández’s response in many ways was a reflection of the new attitude the Dodgers had during the 2024 postseason. The team as a whole was tired of falling short of their goals and played with a new edge throughout October.
Kiké Hernández hopes to re-sign with Dodgers
It has been nearly two months since MLB free agency began, which saw Hernández and several other Dodgers players reach the open market.
The 33-year-old made it clear that his preference is re-signing with the Dodgers and helping the club in their efforts to repeat as World Series champions.
