Los Angeles Dodgers postseason history includes Hall of Famers who are etched in franchise lore, along with several key contributors who aren’t in Cooperstown but made a significant impact come October.
Kiké Hernández falls into the latter category, with a postseason reputation that is well-earned and established. Including this year, he’s been with the Dodgers for their four trips to the World Series since 2017.
With that, Hernández is on the verge of breaking the Dodgers postseason record for most games played. It currently belongs to Justin Turner, who appeared in 86 Dodgers playoff games over his nine years with the franchise.
Heading into the 2025 World Series that begins Friday at Rogers Centre, Hernández has appeared in 85 postseason games with the Dodgers. He’s started all 10 of their playoff games so far this year.
“Humbled, fortunate. This is not just any franchise, man. This is the L.A. Dodgers. They’ve been around for a long time, and they have a lot of history,” answered Hernández when asked about being on the verge of setting the Dodgers playoff record.
Hernández then grew emotional as his eyes welled up while continuing, “And for a guy like me from Puerto Rico, kind of swam against the current my entire life, to be sitting in this position is pretty special. But at the same time, I haven’t really wanted to reflect too much on it because there’s going to be a time for that once I’m done playing, and I’m going to have a lot of years to reflect on it.
“But for now, I’m just, I mean, as cool as that is and I’m going to take that to the grave with me, I’m just focused on today. And it will be cool if my name is up there with the most Dodger World Series ever. But to be creeping up on playing the most playoff games as a Dodger is something that I never really dreamed of or thought that would happen.
“That’s something that is pretty special. I wasn’t really aware of it until you just said that. So that’s why I’m caught a little off guard, sorry.”

Like Turner, Hernández has also been in the playoffs with the Dodgers over nine seasons. They are tied with Kenley Jansen for second-most in franchise history. The Dodgers record for most postseason trips belongs to Clayton Kershaw at 13.
Over his Dodgers postseason career, Hernández heads into the World Series batting .253/.341/.433 with seven doubles, 10 home runs and 30 RBI. He ranks fifth all-time in Dodgers postseason home runs and seventh in RBI.
