The Los Angeles Dodgers hosted the San Francisco Giants on Saturday night looking for their fifth straight victory and seventh in their last eight games.

The task was not easy, facing Giants ace Madison Bumgarner, but they were able to get to him for three runs and came away with a 3-1 victory to extend their win streak.

Matt Kemp was the first Dodger hitter that took Bumgarner deep, hitting a solo shot to left to leadoff the second inning. The homer was Kemp’s 12th of the season.

Bumgarner was able to escape a bases load jam in the fourth by getting Logan Forsythe to fly out to left. He was not able to escape a jam in the fifth though as Kiké Hernandez hit a two-run shot to extend the Dodgers lead.

Hernandez came into the game with three home runs and a .467 career batting average off Bumgarner, so he continued to own the Giants ace. Additionally, Hernandez was batting second in the Dodgers lineup and him going deep marked the seventh straight game that the team’s No. 2 hitter hit a home run, which is a Major League record.

Alex Wood got the start on the mound for the Dodgers and had his best outing in weeks. He did not allow a hit until the fifth inning, although that was when he ran into some trouble, giving up three hits and a sacrifice fly.

He was able to get through 5.2 innings, allowing just four hits and one run while striking out and walking two.

The Dodgers bullpen was once again flawless in relief of Wood, with Yimi Garcia coming in to get the last out of the sixth. Scott Alexander followed by facing the minimum in the seventh, although he only threw six of his 15 pitches for strikes.

Josh Fields, who has solidified himself as the Dodgers primary set-up man to Kenley Jansen in recent weeks, tossed a 1-2-3 eighth and then Jansen came in and closed it out for his 17th save of the season.
