Kenley Jansen Happy To Redeem Himself After Dodgers’ Win Over Angels

The Los Angeles Dodgers flipped the script on Saturday in the second game of the Freeway Series with a 3-1 win over the Los Angeles Angels at Angel Stadium.

The Dodgers, for the second consecutive day, carried a 2-1 lead into the ninth inning. But unlike the previous contest, Los Angeles added a key insurance run in the form of a two-out, solo home run by Yasiel Puig off Angels reliever Noe Ramirez.

That allowed another save opportunity for Dodgers closer Kenley Jansen, less than 24 hours removed from being tabbed with a loss after the Angels pulled off a stunning comeback victory in the bottom of the ninth on Friday.

Jansen, after blowing only his third save of the season, rebounded with a clean inning of work — accumulating two strikeouts without yielding a baserunner.

After the game, Jansen joked that he can sleep again after successfully converting his 24th save of the season, via Bill Plunkett of the Southern California News Group:

“I can sleep. I can definitely sleep,” Jansen said. “I was hard on myself. You’re going to blow saves. But last night – four straight balls (after getting Shohei Ohtani down 0-and-2), didn’t hold the runner, didn’t back up home. Those things … I had a rough night last night.”

Jansen took the blame for Friday’s loss against the Angels despite the Dodgers’ defense committing two errors behind him.

He admittedly made mistakes of his own, as he alluded to, by Walking Ohtani with two outs in the inning and then forgetting to back up home plate on the game-winning play.

Now with all of that in the past, the Dodgers look to clinch the Freeway Series with one more victory over the Angels on Sunday.
