Justin Wrobleski Placed On Dodgers’ Injured List, Kyle Hurt Recalled

The Los Angeles Dodgers recalled Kyle Hurt from Triple-A Oklahoma City and put Justin Wrobleski on the 15-day injured list due to left forearm inflammation.

Hurt is back up with the Dodgers after getting optioned Aug. 10 in the corresponding move to the team recalling Charlie Barnes. Hurt was only eligible to return to the roster this quickly by virtue of replacing an injured player.

The possibility was one Dodgers manager Dave Roberts hinted at after the 4-1 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers on Saturday.

“We have some guys that are ailing,” Roberts said.

Hurt has gone 3-1 with a 4.46 ERA and 46 strikeouts in 37.1 innings pitched across 37 games (one start) with the Dodgers this season. During his time with the Comets this year, Hurt is 1-1 with an 10.13 ERA in 10 appearances.

Hurt has now been formally recalled three times this season, but he also was up with the Dodgers as their 27th player for one of the doubleheader games against the New York Yankees.

Hurt’s return gives Roberts a fresh arm out of a bullpen that’s shouldered a heavy workload with the Dodgers in the midst of playing 13 games in a row without an off day. Though, the group received a reprieve from Jonathan Hernández pitching the final three innings on Saturday.

Beyond facing the Brewers in a four-game set this weekend, he was particularly concerned when looking ahead to the series at Coors Field.

“It’s tough to navigate. We have a seven-man ‘pen in the middle of 13 in a row. There’s a point of trying to push starters but to be smart with them,” Roberts said on Friday. “Essentially all of our relievers are overworked right now, so trying to be mindful of their performance and health.

“I think that getting through this series and certainly Colorado is going to be a task in itself, but the six-man rotation is something I think we’re kind of beholden to.”

Justin Wrobleski on injured list

Wrobleski is on the IL for the first time this season. That leaves Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Roki Sasaki as the only members of the Dodgers’ rotation who have been healthy all year.

The injury could explain some of Wrobleski’s recent troubles, though his velocity and strikeout numbers have held while he’s fallen victim to the home run ball.

Following Wrobleski’s six innings on Saturday, Roberts indicated a move to the bullpen was forthcoming as Tyler Glasnow nears a return and Shohei Ohtani is making progress toward joining the rotation as well.
