Justin Wrobleski & Andy Pages Added To Expanded Dodgers Roster For September

Justin Wrobleski and Andy Pages were recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City to join the expanded Los Angeles Dodgers roster for September.

MLB roster rules permit teams to carry 28 active players for the final month of the regular season. However, within that is a requirement that the new additions must be split evenly between a pitcher and position player.

Wrobleski is up with the Dodgers for a third time this season and is starting Sunday’s game against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Wrobleski is 1-1 with a 4.68 ERA and 1.20 WHIP in five starts for the Dodgers this season. He last pitched for them in a spot start on Aug. 16, the same day he joined the Dodgers roster as the corresponding move to Tyler Glasnow being placed on the 15-day injured list with right elbow tendinitis.

Prior to that, Wrobleski made his MLB debut on July 7 and remained in the Dodgers rotation for the rest of the month. That changed when Jack Flaherty was acquired at the trade deadline and needed to be added onto the Dodgers’ roster.

The team elected to option Wrobleski instead of River Ryan, who made just two more starts before undergoing season-ending Tommy John surgery.

“It was tough. It was tough. I think we just wanted to see a little bit more from River. But Justin did a fantastic job, and it wouldn’t surprise me to see him back up here at some point,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said at the time.

Wrobleski’s rise through the Dodgers farm system has seen him pitch for Double-A Tulsa and the Oklahoma City Baseball Club this year before reaching the Majors.

It may not be likely that Wrobleski sticks on the Dodgers roster for the rest of the season as the team may look to rotate relief pitchers through the extra spot.

Andy Pages back with Dodgers

Pages returns from Oklahoma City nearly two weeks after he was optioned in order to make room for Max Muncy coming off the injured list.

Pages originally joined the Dodgers on April 16 as the corresponding move to Jason Heyward landing on the 10-day injured list. The rookie then hit his way into an everyday role but dealt with recent struggles that extended to playing center field.

The 23-year-old did start to have better results at the plate in the week before getting sent down to the Minors.

While Pages was the Dodgers’ position-player choice for their expanded roster, he figures to take on more of a platoon role and bat off the bench to close out the season.
