Justin Turner joined teammates Yency Almonte and Brusdar Graterol in sharing a message for Los Angeles Dodgers fans after they were eliminated by the San Diego Padres, but his also included an apology.

In a long caption to accompany his Instagram post that featured a variety of photos from throughout the 2022 regular season, Turner shared he’s felt a wide range of emotions and disappointment since the Dodgers’ playoff run came to an end.

Turner reiterated “there are no excuses” for the Dodgers falling short — a sentiment he previously shared from the visitors clubhouse at Petco Park after Game 4 — and noted the outcome was “hard to accept.”

Turner concluded his heartfelt message by thanking fans for their endless support and citing Vin Scully’s sendoff from his final broadcast that offered a reminder that a new season would soon be on the horizon.

After getting off to a slow start this year, Turner put together a blistering month of July and rode that through the remainder of the regular season. However, he was slowed over the final stretch of games due to a left shin contusion that stemmed from fouling a ball off his foot during the first game of a doubleheader on Sept. 20.

“We had some untimely injuries with Gavin Lux and J.T., who were doing really well in September and had those injuries and came back weren’t quite right yet,” Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman said.

Justin Turner’s contract with Dodgers

After spending the past 10 seasons with the Dodgers, what lies ahead for Turner is unclear. The team holds a $16 million option ($2 million buyout) on Turner’s contract for the 2023 season. They don’t need to make an official decision on Turner’s contract until five days after the 2022 World Series concludes.

The Dodgers re-signed Turner after he became a free agent following the 2016 and 2020 seasons.
