Justin Turner was named the Los Angeles Dodgers’ nominee for the 2021 Roberto Clemente Award, marking a fourth time in the last five years has been up for the prestigious honor. Turner was previously nominated in 2017, 2018 and 2020.
“I’m honored to be the Dodgers’ nominee for this award and be mentioned alongside Roberto Clemente, who showed us all the impact that athletes can make and what it means to give back to the community,” Turner said in a statement.
“My wife Kourtney and I are humbled by this recognition, and pledge to continue lifting up people in need, especially our homeless veterans, and supporting our hospitals, schools and youth sports.”
The Roberto Clemente Award is the annual recognition of a Major League player who best represents the game of baseball through extraordinary character, community involvement, philanthropy and positive contributions, both on and off the field.
Each club has a nominee and a league-wide winner is then selected from the group of 30 players.
“Los Angeles is fortunate to have Justin, both for his impact as an All-Star in the Dodger lineup and for his continued effort to improve the lives of Angelenos,” Dodgers vice president of external affairs and community relations Naomi Rodriguez said.
“Justin, Kourtney and the Justin Turner Foundation are invaluable partners for the Dodger organization and our mission to serve our community, and we’re proud to nominate him for this prestigious award.”
Justin and Kourtney Turner founded the Justin Turner Foundation in 2016 and have regularly given back to the local community and those in need through various charitable events, surprise visits and donations.
Last year the Justin and Kourtney Turner Food Bank was unveiled at The Dream Center to celebrate the couple for their assistance in providing meals to families during the pandemic.
The Turners also arranged for food to be delivered per week to doctors, nurses and staff at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. Justin, Kourtney and the Justin Turner Foundation were added to the Spotlight Wall at CHLA in recognition of their philanthropic efforts.
