Jeff Kent was officially inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame on July 26, along with Andruw Jones and Carlos Beltran.
Kent is most well known for his six seasons spent with the San Fransisco Giants from 1997-2002, but he played out his career with the Los Angeles Dodgers over four highly productive seasons.
The 17-year Major League veteran reflected on his time with the Dodgers under manager and fellow Hall of Fame inductee Tommy Lasorda.
“My career ended with the Los Angeles Dodgers. And I’m forever grateful to that organization for allowing me to finish so close to home,” Kent began. “I grew up in Southern California, and to put that uniform on in front of my family and friends, and the So Cal fans, meant more than words can say.
“I took pride in playing second base, a position that keeps you in every play and demands toughness. But my bat was always my ticket. I learned a long time ago from Tommy Lasorda, one of the best motivators in the game, a simple truth that I lived by my whole career: the money lies in the RBIs.”
Kent had an extraordinary baseball career, ranking highly amongst second baseman in several major categories. His 351 career home runs are the most of any second baseman in MLB history, and his career .500 slugging percentage is second only to Rogers Hornsby.
Kent’s 1,518 RBI rank third all-time for a second baseman, the aforementioned statistic of which he took great pride in. He also ranked third in extra-base hits (984) and sixth in total bases (4,246)
During his Dodgers tenure, the right-hander hit .291/.367/.479 with 75 home runs, 311 RBI and 281 runs scored in 521 games. Kent earned a Silver Slugger award and made the All-Star team during his first season with the Dodgers in 2005.
Overall, Kent was a five-time All-Star, a four-time Silver Slugger and took home the National League MVP Award in 2000.
A 20th-round pick by the Toronto Blue Jays in 1989, Kent played for six teams during his career. That included four within his first six seasons in the Majors, as he was traded three times in that span.

Kent received his candidacy to the National Baseball Hall of Fame through the Contemporary Era committee at the 2025 Winter Meetings.
He received 14 votes from the 16-person committee. Candidates needed to receive votes on 75% (12) of the ballots cast by the Contemporary Era committee in order to gain induction into Cooperstown.
Kent was the only player elected to the Hall of Fame through the Contemporary Era committee.
