Jarren Duran is one of the top names reportedly available for trade this offseason as the Boston Red Sox look for ways to improve their roster.
The Red Sox currently have four starting-caliber outfielders on their club with Ceddanne Rafaela, Roman Anthony, Wilyer Abreu and Duran. All but Rafaela hit left-handed.
Masataka Yoshida is another left-handed hitter with outfield experience on the Red Sox roster, but spent most of his time at designated hitter.
Boston has been shopping Duran as a way to potentially trade from a strength to improve their team, but so far they haven’t been able to match up on a deal.
That may be due to the Red Sox asking price for Duran of a frontline starting pitcher, via Jeff Passan of ESPN:
The Red Sox believe Duran is worth a front-of-the-rotation starter. At this point, no one has been willing to pay that. Considering the return the Rays got on Shane Baz, teams are going to be that much more emboldened to price starting pitchers very aggressively, even with the paucity of good bats left beyond the very top of the free agent market.
Duran is coming off a down season by his standards, but still produced 3.9 WAR in 157 games. He batted .256/.332/.442 with 16 home runs, 86 runs scored, 84 RBI and 24 stolen bases.
Duran’s best year came in 2024 when he was nearly a seven-win player after hitting .285/.342/.492 with 21 home runs, 111 runs, 75 RBI and 34 stolen bases.
Duran was also one of the game’s best defensive center fielders in 2024, but saw significant regression in 2025 with most of his starts coming in left field.
The 29-year-old is under team control for three more seasons before he can become a free agent in 2029, when he’s 32.
Dodgers trade cost for Jarren Duran
The Los Angeles Dodgers are one team to watch for on the trade market as adding an outfielder is among their top priorities.
Given what the Red Sox are looking for, if the Dodgers hope to trade for Duran, the ask may start with Tyler Glasnow. However, Glasnow has also been told by the front office he won’t be traded.
The Red Sox could also target Emmet Sheehan, given his upside as a potential frontline starter. But considering Sheehan hasn’t reached that potential yet, they would likely ask for another player back, and with a need at catcher, Dalton Rushing’s name could be discussed.
It’s unlikely the Dodgers would be willing to part with both for Duran, and may prefer to discuss names other than Sheehan, such as River Ryan or Gavin Stone. But given how the Dodgers operate and the Red Sox’ asking price, a deal seems unlikely unless things change.
