While it’s seemingly become less of a need amid Michael Conforto’s resurgence over recent weeks, the Los Angeles Dodgers at one point were said to be in search of a left-handed hitting outfielder.
In the time since they were connected to St. Louis Cardinals All-Star Brendan Donovan, but more recently it appears Harrison Bader might be a focal point for the Dodgers.
While it’s not yet clear if the Boston Red Sox will look to trade some of their candidates before the 3 p.m. PT deadline on Thursday, Jarren Duran has been the subject of consistent speculation.
According to Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic, the San Diego Padres are firmly in pursuit of trading for Duran:
As the trade deadline enters its final 24 hours, Jarren Duran’s name is still squarely in the mix, with the San Diego Padres continuing to pursue the outfielder.
And despite some belief that Duran could be an answer for the Dodgers in their outfield, there aren’t indications they’ve discussed a trade with the Red Sox:
Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Dodgers could put themselves in the Duran equation, if only to drive up the asking price for their NL West division opponent, but as of Wednesday afternoon, Los Angeles was not in the mix for Duran, according to a league source.
Just as the Dodgers were beginning their road trip in Boston, a report indicated the Red Sox had interest in Dalton Rushing. And with that, the Dodgers reportedly had done extensive scouting work on Red Sox prospects Franklin Arias (shortstop) and Brandon Clarke (left-handed starting pitcher).
It was under that guise some began to wonder if the Dodgers and Red Sox would align on a trade that involved Duran.
All the while the Padres have been connected to Duran for multiple weeks. That’s come with conflicting reports of whether or not the Red Sox rejected a trade offer from the Padres. Duran is under team control for multiple years and won’t reach free agency until after the 2028 season.
Dodgers, Padres battling in NL West
Neither the Padres nor the Dodgers have made a deadline move as they both look to take hold of the National League West.
Elsewhere in the NL, the Philadelphia Phillies traded for Jhoan Duran, and the New York Mets are acquiring Ryan Helsley. The Dodgers were connected to both right-handed relief pitchers.
