The Los Angeles Dodgers presented the fourth annual Tommy Lasorda I Bleed Dodger Blue Award to Jaime Jarrín and Steve Brener, both of whom have made a significant impact on the franchise.
The award is given to a member of the Dodgers community who embodies the passion, enthusiasm and love for the team that former Hall of Fame manager Tommy Lasorda possessed.
Brener and Jarrín were recognized during an on-field ceremony before the series finale against the San Francisco Giants. Laura Lasorda, Tommy’s daughter, and Charlie Hough helped present the awards.
Monday would have been Lasorda’s 98th birthday. He passed away in 2021 and the Dodgers began the award in his honor the following year.
Jarrín became the Dodgers’ Spanish-language play-by-play man in 1959 and held the role for 64 seasons before retiring after the 2022 campaign. Jarrín has remained connected to the Dodgers organization by participating in various events and initiatives.
He recently was celebrated among the long-time employees with at least 25 years of service with the Dodgers.
Brener is a public relations czar who joined the Dodgers organization in 1970. It was in the role as an assistant in the publicity department, and Brener became the Dodgers’ publicity director from 1975-1987. He returned as a PR consultant in 2012.
Tommy Lasorda Bleed Dodger Blue Award history
Brener and Jarrín represent the first time the Dodgers have given the award in Lasorda’s honor to two recipients for the same year.
The inaugural honor went to Rosalind Wyman, who was the key figure in bringing the Dodgers to Los Angeles from Brooklyn in 1958. She additionally was influential in helping the San Francisco Giants relocate from New York while also helping the Lakers move to Los Angeles from Minneapolis.
The second annual Tommy Lasorda Bleed Dodger Blue Award went to John Shoemaker in 2023, and Steve Yeager was the recipient last year.
