Los Angeles Dodgers Spanish-language broadcaster Jaime Jarrín has joined coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic relief efforts by donating at least $30,000 to the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank through the Jaime & Blanca Jarrín Foundation and in partnership with Los Defensores.

On top of their base donation, the family foundation will match pledges for up to an additional $30,000. Donations can be made at www.jarrinfoundation.org/donate.

The Jaime & Blanca Jarrín Foundation was established late last year in response to Jaime, Jorge and the rest of the Jarrín family seeking to honor Blanca. Jaime’s wife tragically passed away during Spring Training in 2019.

Jaime and Jorge both emphasized the need and desire to provide for those in need amid the current climate, via Bill Plunkett of the Southern California News Group:

“We are trying to help some people,” said Jarrin who has been a spokesman for Los Defensores for over 30 years. “We’re going to take advantage of our relationship with Los Defensores and their desire to help.”

“With the coronavirus putting so many families at risk, out of work, no one should go hungry, and we want to do our part in supporting the vital work of the Los Angeles Food Bank,” said Jorge Jarrin, Jaime’s son and broadcast partner.

In addition to the Jarrín family, the Dodgers have been represented in local relief efforts by Justin and Kourtney Turner, Clayton and Ellen Kershaw, Max and Kellie Muncy, and Chris Taylor, among others.

Meanwhile, the team, Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation (LADF) and iHeartMedia L.A. are focused on providing for those experiencing homelessness, food insecurity, difficulty with basic needs and provide support for healthcare workers.

Initial grants are being directed to the L.A. Food Bank, My Friend’s Place and the Mayor’s Fund of Los Angeles. Additional funds raised will be directed to similar organizations with substantial need.

The relief efforts also saw thousands of Dodger Dogs served at The Dream Center.
