Jack Flaherty: ‘Dream Come True’ To Win World Series With Dodgers

As the Los Angeles Dodgers faced a significant need for starting pitching at the trade deadline, their search led to acquiring Jack Flaherty from the Detroit Tigers in exchange for prospects Trey Sweeney and Thayron Liranzo.

Flaherty wound up being the most notable starter traded at the deadline in 2024. Joining the Dodgers represented a homecoming for the right-hander, who is a Burbank, Calif., native.

Flaherty filled a key role for the Dodgers during the regular season and had impressive moments during the playoffs as well.

During an appearance on “The Rich Eisen Show,” Flaherty reflected on the significance and emotional connection of winning a World Series with the Dodgers:

“It was a dream come true. I think I’m finally realizing how cool it was and how special it was. A dream come true winning the World Series, of course, but then to do it in L.A., do it for the city I grew up in, it’s something not everybody talks about but it’s something everybody dreams of. It was special.”

In his Game 1 start against the New York Yankees, Flaherty logged 19 swings and misses. Aside from one mistake pitch, he would’ve been spotless.

Prior to that, Flaherty also shined in a Game 1 start against the New York Mets in the National League Championship Series.

Should the Dodgers re-sign Jack Flaherty?

For as volatile as Flaherty can be, his stuff proved that when he is on, he’s an extremely effective starting pitcher.

The Dodgers have been rumored to be in the hunt for a frontend arm, but that doesn’t rule out a reunion between the two. Flaherty is certainly an option, but for the tier of starter they’re pursuing, he might be one of their fallback names.

Flaherty expressed a strong desire to re-sign with the Dodgers during their World Series parade, but some of that emotion may have been inspired by the excitement of the day.
