Dodgers News: Jack Dreyer Received Votes For 2025 NL Rookie Of The Year

The Los Angeles Dodgers did not have a finalist for 2025 National League Jackie Robinson Rookie of the Year, but Jack Dreyer received down-ballot votes for the award that went to Atlanta Braves catcher Drake Baldwin.

Baldwin was the only player named on all 30 ballots that were cast. He received 21 first-place votes and nine for second place, totaling 183 points.

That was good for a finish ahead of Chicago Cubs rookie Cade Horton, who garnered nine first-place votes, 16 second place and four for third place, amounting to 139 points.

Baldwin became the seventh catcher to ever win Rookie of the Year and the second for the Braves. Baldwin joined Earl Williams in Braves franchise history as catchers to win the award.

The other Rookie of the Year catchers are Johnny Bench (1968), Benito Santiago (1987), Mike Piazza (1993), Giovanny Soto (2008) and Buster Posey (2010).

Overall, the Braves now boast 10 Rookie of the Year winners in franchise history. That’s second-most in the NL and trail only the Dodgers’ history of 18 Rookie of the Year awards.

The Dodgers have not had a Rookie of the Year finalist since James Outman placed third in 2023. The last Dodgers Rookie of the Year winner was Cody Bellinger in 2017. That was part of a back-to-back streak as Corey Seager earned the honor in 2016.

Roki Sasaki was predicted by many to be NL Rookie of the Year in 2025, but his debut season went wayward in large part because of a right shoulder injury.

Voting details for Dodgers rookie Jack Dreyer

Dreyer tied for ninth place in 2025 NL Rookie of the Year voting, receiving one second-place vote and one for fifth place, resulting in four overall points.

Enrique Rojas of ESPN Deportes had Dreyer third on his Rookie of the Year ballot, and The Athletic’s Grant Brisbee included the left-hander fifth.

Ballots were cast prior to the postseason beginning. They are tabulated on a system that rewards seven points for first place, four points for second place, three points for third place, two points for fourth and one point for fifth place.

Dreyer made his MLB debut this season and finished third among all Dodgers pitchers with 67 appearances. He finished 3-2 with four saves, a 2.95 ERA and 1.03 WHIP.

Dreyer regularly earned praise from Dodgers manager Dave Roberts, particularly with his emergence early in the year as the bullpen dealt with injuries and inconsistent performances from veterans.

“Jack’s been great,” Roberts said in September. “It’s hard to quantify baseball aptitude or heartbeat, but because of his intelligence, his calmness, he’s been able to handle whatever role, whatever leverage.

“He takes the information, understands what he’s trying to do every time he’s on the mound. And that’s shown itself. He’s unflappable. Very, very valuable for our ballclub and the ‘pen.”
