Yankees Claim Michael Siani Off Waivers From Dodgers

The New York Yankees claimed Michael Siani off waivers from the Los Angeles Dodgers after he was designated for assignment to make room on the 40-man roster for Kyle Tucker.

The Dodgers previously claimed Siani off waivers from the Atlanta Braves on Dec. 12. Prior to that, the Braves claimed the center fielder from the St. Louis Cardinals on Nov. 6, making the Yankees his fourth organization this offseason.

Siani has played parts of four seasons with the Cincinnati Reds and Cardinals, but spent the majority of the 2025 season in Triple-A. He appeared in just 19 games for the Cardinals over the season, but in 2024, he played in a career-high 124 games.

Over his MLB career, the left-handed hitter has played in 160 games while hitting .221/.277/.270 with seven doubles, two triples, two home runs, 48 runs scored, 20 RBI and 21 stolen bases.

In 2025, he hit .235/.316/.235 in his limited playing time.

While with the Memphis Redbirds this past season, Siani hit just .209/.307/.329 with 12 doubles, four triples, eight home runs and 41 RBI over 101 games. He added 28 stolen bases and was caught stealing just five times.

Despite his struggles with the bat, Siani is an elite defensive center fielder with plus speed. In 2024, his 16 outs above average ranked in the 99th percentile of players.

The Dodgers likely envisioned him filling the role held by Justin Dean last season as a defensive sub and pinch-runner, but he became the odd-man out on a crowded roster.

The Dodgers also have Alex Call and Ryan Ward on their roster as outfield depth, and Kiké Hernández will likely be added to the list once Spring Training begins.

Had he cleared waivers, the Dodgers would have sent him to Triple-A to keep Siani in the organization.

Michael Siani contract status

Siani has not yet qualified for arbitration and is under team control through the 2031 season. Moreover, he still has one Minor League option season remaining.
