World Series Recap: Dodgers Defeat Blue Jays In Game 7 With Improbable Comeback

The Los Angeles Dodgers battled back from an early deficit in Game 7 of the 2025 World Series and completed the improbable comeback against the Toronto Blue Jays to repeat as MLB’s champions.

Down to their final two outs while trailing by one run, Miguel Rojas blasted a solo home run that tied the game and ended up sending the Dodgers to extra innings. After getting to the 11th inning, Will Smith hit the go-ahead shot that put the Dodgers up 5-4, giving them the lead for the first time in the game.

To get to that point, the Dodgers had to rely on Yoshinbou Yamamoto to pitch on no days of rest. He entered after Blake Snell in the ninth inning with two runners on, and escaped a bases loaded jam that sent it to extra innings.

Yamamoto also pitched a scoreless 10th inning, and went back out for the 11th inning. He allowed a leadoff double to Vladimir Guerrero Jr. trying to save the game, but got the first out a bunt, and after a walk, he forced a double play to end the game.

With Shohei Ohtani starting on short rest, he wasn’t sharp, living too far out of the zone and too many pitches over the heart of the plate. Still, he was able to get through two scoreless innings and stranded the bases loaded in the second.

But Ohtani went back out for the third, and that’s where things quickly fell apart. He allowed a leadoff single to George Springer, then intentionally walked Guerrero Jr. with one out. Bo Bichette then stepped up to the plate and quickly launched a three-run homer to center field to put the Blue Jays up 3-0 and demoralize the Dodgers.

The Dodgers began to chip away in the fourth. Will Smith hit a leadoff double and scored on a sacrifice fly from Teoscar Hernández. But the Dodgers left a pair of runners stranded as the inning came to an end.

Mookie Betts started them off with a walk in the sixth inning, and Max Muncy followed with a single. Tommy Edman drove in the Dodgers’ second run of the game with a sacrifice fly, and after a single from Kiké Hernández, L.A. left another two runners stranded on base.

The Blue Jays also added that run right back in the bottom half of the inning while facing Tyler Glasnow. Ernie Clement hit a leadoff single, and after stealing second base, he scored on a double from Andrés Giménez.

Max Muncy made it a one-run game again with a solo homer in the eighth inning while facing Trey Yesavage with one out.

Dodgers and Blue Jays pitching in Game 7

Ohtani gave the Dodgers just 2.1 innings while allowing three runs on five hits, with three strikeouts and two walks. Max Scherzer started for the Blue Jays and gave them 4.1 innings of one-run ball, allowing four hits while striking out three and walking one.

Justin Wrobleski gave the Dodgers 1.1 scoreless innings, and Glasnow pitched 2.1 innings with one run allowed on three hits. Emmet Sheehan recorded three outs over parts of two innings, and Snell came in after Sheehan to give them 1.1 scoreless innings.

Louis Varland once again appeared for the Blue Jays, setting an MLB postseason record with his 15th appearance out of the bullpen. He recorded two outs without allowing a run.

Chris Bassitt gave the Blue Jays one inning, allowing one run on two hist, before Yesavage took over and gave them 1.2 innings with one run allowed.

Jeff Hoffman blew the save for the Blue Jays while pitching 1.1 innings, and Shane Bieber gave up the go-ahead run to Will Smith in the 11th inning. Seranthony Dominguez pitched one scoreless inning in the 10th.
