Just months after beginning production of the official Dodger Dog, Papa Cantella’s announced it has now made the iconic hot dog available in grocery stores such as Vons, Albertsons and Ralphs, throughout Southern California.

Since Opening Day on April 1, more than 350,000 been Dodger Dogs have sold at Dodger Stadium. Although Los Angeles Dodgers fans have had to wait for the chance to purchase them in a retail setting, the timing is perhaps as perfect as it could be.

Now with summer in full swing, fans can happily place their favorite ballpark treats on the grill and experience the ambiance of Chavez Ravine in their own backyards.

“We are excited to help fans feel like they’re at Dodger Stadium all summer long with retail packs of Dodger Dog,” said Papa Cantella’s president Tony Cantella in a statement. “Dodger Dogs have been a Los Angeles staple for decades, and now people can get that quality and nostalgic flavor on their own grills this summer.”

One of the most iconic stadium foods in the world, the Dodger Dog has been a centerpiece of the team’s culture since their 1958 arrival in Los Angeles. When it was announced in April that the Dodgers were cutting ties with longtime hot dog supplier Farmer John, many were nervous about the change.

Since Papa Cantella’s Dodger Dogs came onto the scene, though, sales haven’t missed a beat. More than 100,000 Dodger Dogs were sold in the team’s first 13 home games this season.

Dodger Stadium offers plant-based Dodger Dog

In addition to replacing their traditional Dodger Dog, the organization announced a plant-based alternative is part of the Dodger Stadium food offerings as well. Supplied by Field Roast, this new dog is said to be the first pea-protein-based hot dog to appear in a Major League ballpark.

“The Dodger Dog is one of the most iconic hot dogs in America, so we’re excited to offer a plant-based version that’s just as crave-worthy,” said Dan Curtin, president of Field Roast parent company Greenleaf Foods.

“Field Roast is proud to partner with the Dodger organization to bring the Signature Stadium Dog to Dodger Nation, and we know that it will quickly amass its own league of loyal fans.”

Just like the Papa Cantella’s Dodger Dogs, the plant-based version will be sold in packs at grocery stores throughout Southern California.
