The Los Angeles Dodgers signed Tyler Glasnow to a contract extension after acquiring him in a four-player trade with the Tampa Bay Rays.

Glasnow will earn $136.5 million over the next five seasons, including his $25 million salary for 2024. The Dodgers reportedly converted $10 million of Glasnow’s 2024 salary into a signing bonus to lower their competitive balance tax (CBT) payroll.

The Dodgers also hold a club option on Glasnow for the 2029 season that is worth $30 million. If that is declined, Glasnow reportedly has a $20 million player option he could exercise.

Another key detail of the contract extension is that Glasnow will donate 1% of his annual salary to the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation, per Jon Heyman of the New York Post:

Tyler Glasnow, Dodgers

EXTENSION: $111,562,500/4. 2025-2027, player opt 2028.

$30M- 2025
$30M – 2026
$30M – 2027

Player Option 2028 for $21,562,500.

If Player declines Option, Club option for $30,000,000.

Player will donate 1% of salary per year to Club Charity.

The Dodgers structured Shohei Ohtani’s historic contract so that he will donate 1% of his annual salary to the LADF as well.

The two players have been intertwined in many ways this offseason as Ohtani reportedly recruited Glasnow while the Dodgers were finalizing their trade with the Rays. Ohtani’s deferred salary also helped the Dodgers continue their aggressive offseason, which has led to Glasnow and the reported signing of Yoshinobu Yamamoto.

What Tyler Glasnow brings to Dodgers

When healthy, Glasnow is one of the most talented starting pitchers in all of baseball and gives the Dodgers another ace to pair with Walker Buehler when he returns from Tommy John surgery.

Glasnow went 10-7 with a 3.53 ERA, 2.91 FIP, 1.08 WHIP and 12.2 strikeouts per nine in 120 innings pitched across 21 starts this past season. He missed nearly the first two months of the season due to a left oblique strain, but managed to stay on the field the rest of the way.

Since joining the Rays in 2018, Glasnow ranks fourth among starting pitchers in strikeouts per nine (12.19) and batting average against (.195), and is tied for seventh in FIP (3.10).
