Steven Kwan Trade Rumors: Dodgers Remain Among Interested Teams

The Los Angeles Dodgers started their trade deadline activity by parting with Hunter Feduccia in a three-team deal to acquire Paul Gervase, Adam Serinowski and Ben Rortvedt, and have since reportedly come to terms with the Minnesota Twins for Brock Stewart.

While it’s plausible the Dodgers look for an additional bullpen addition, there also is an expectation of trading for an outfielder. One of the more prominent names they have been connected to is Cleveland Guardians All-Star Steven Kwan.

It hasn’t been entirely clear over recent weeks if the Guardians would trade Kwan before the 3 p.m. PT deadline on Thursday, but there’s a growing sense they will move forward with a deal.

According to Jon Morosi of MLB Network, the Dodgers are among the teams with continued interest in a trade for Kwan:

The San Diego Padres have also been mentioned as a potential landing spot for Kwan, but they parted with multiple top prospects to acquire Mason Miller from the A’s and might have trouble lining up on a trade with the Guardians.

Reports indicated the Guardians sought top Padres prospect Leo De Vries as part of their ask for Kwan. The heralded shortstop, ranked as the No. 3 overall prospect in baseball by MLB Pipeline, instead was a centerpiece for the Padres acquiring Miller.

The Guardians front office has a reputation for taking a firm stance on their trade demands, and don’t figure to part with Kwan unless receiving a substantial return.

How Steven Kwan trade helps Dodgers

Kwan is capable of playing all three outfield positions but has primarily spent this year in left field. He’s won a Gold Glove Award every year from 2002-2024, but has seen a curious drop off in speed and outs above average percentiles since last season.

Furthermore, Kwan leads all outfielders with nine assists this season, but has also committed the most errors with six. Even with some of the concerns, he would represent a defensive improvement for the Dodgers in their outfield.

Kwan is batting .286/.350/.408 with 20 doubles, nine home runs and 38 RBI. His bat-to-ball skills conceivably would be a boost for the lineup.
