Dodgers Spring Training Video: Tyler Glasnow Throws First Bullpen Session

The Los Angeles Dodgers entered the offseason with a focus on upgrading their starting rotation, and they did that in part by acquiring and extending Tyler Glasnow from the Tampa Bay Rays.

Glasnow is one of the most talented and effective pitchers in Major League Baseball, but he has not had much luck staying on the mound. However, in 2023, Glasnow set his career-high with 120 innings and feels confident he will get past that.

The Dodgers are expecting big things from Glasnow, and with pitchers and catchers already at Camelback Ranch, he was able to throw his first bullpen session as a member of the team.

Most of the time Glasnow has missed was related to the same injury that first popped up in 2019. The injury continued to affect him in 2020 and 2021 before he underwent Tommy John surgery.

“I’ve never really been prone to injuries or anything until that 2019 UCL sprain or tear, whatever it was,” Glasnow said after the trade in December. “And ever since I’ve gotten that fixed, it’s never really been something I’ve thought about. Now, compared to then, is night and day. I’m looking forward to having some healthy seasons.”

The Dodgers are betting on Glasnow staying healthy, and if he does, they should be rewarded with an ace for their pitching staff. Glasnow was recently ranked by MLB Network’s analysts as a top-10 starting pitcher for the 2024 season.

He is expected to lead their rotation with Yoshinobu Yamamoto, another signing this offseason who the club is high on after making him the highest-paid starting pitcher in MLB history.

Tyler Glasnow was ‘obsessed’ watching Clayton Kershaw pitch

Glasnow, a Southern California native, said it was a longtime dream to play for the Dodgers and signed a five-year, $136.5 million contract extension that will keep him in L.A. for the foreseeable future.

Glasnow grew up a Dodgers fan and named some of his favorite players as a kid. “Shawn Green I really loved a lot,” Glasnow said.

“And then I was a bit older, but the most memorable was watching Clayton Kershaw pitch because he was like 20 in the Big Leagues, and I was just like, ‘This is insane.’ So I was obsessed watching him.

“And I just remember watching games with my dad in the backyard and that was always like a very vivid memory for me.”
