Spring Training Recap: Dodgers Shut Out By Rockies

The Los Angeles Dodgers again weren’t able to generate any momentum in Cactus League play as they suffered a 2-0 loss to the Colorado Rockies in their only visit to Salt River Fields this spring. It was the first time the Dodgers were shut out in 2025.

Freddie Freeman went 1-for-3 with a base hit in his first game of the year. It came exactly 12 weeks removed from having right ankle surgery during the offseason.

Freeman was in the Dodgers lineup as their designated hitter and potentially could play first base on Sunday. Freeman’s single came in his first at-bat of the game, and he followed that with fly outs in each of his next two trips to the plate.

That was part of an overall showing by the Dodgers lineup.

The game remained scoreless until Kirby Yates gave up an RBI double to Ezequiel Tovar in the fifth inning. Yates retired just two of five batters faced in his second appearance of Spring Training.

Blake Treinen kept the deficit to a minimum despite giving up a single as he collected one strikeout in the sixth inning. The game was also Treinen’s second of the year.

That applied to Tanner Scott as well, and he too failed to retire the side in order. Scott allowed two hits, including an RBI double to Hunter Goodman.

Landon Knack pitched 1.1 innings as the Dodgers’ starter, allowing one hit and issuing a walk.

Shohei Ohtani on-deck for Dodgers

Next on the Dodgers’ Spring Training schedule is their first night game of the year. It comes at Camelback Ranch against the Los Angeles Angels, and will see Shohei Ohtani in his first 2025 Cactus League game.

Will Smith is also going to be in the lineup for the first time.
