Sports Crate Aiming To Fill Void For Dodgers, MLB Fans With Monthly Deliveries

In conjunction with the regular season beginning, Loot Crate, Major League Baseball, and the MLB Players Association announced the launch of Sports Crate, a subscription-based company that provides exclusive products on a monthly basis.

The Los Angeles Dodgers were among the 10 teams Sports Crate selected for their launch. The company, only four years old, intends to offer crates for all 30 MLB teams and eventually expand into other sports.

“This is our first major venture into sports. We want to start slow and make sure we do it right,” Sports Crate senior vice president and general manager Doug Wadleigh explained.

“Los Angeles is a large market with a great young team and a passionate fan base. We’re excited to offer this to the Dodger faithful.”

Sports Crate offers two bundles: a $39.99 monthly subscription that doesn’t come with any commitment, or a Season Pass for $179.99. A Season Pass includes five months of Sports Crate shipments and can be prepaid upfront for a discount and special edition figure.

Each crate is valued at a minimum of $80, and features five to seven team-specific items, including authentic limited merchandise. The complete contents of each crate are otherwise a surprise.

“There will always be a figure because there’s an unmet demand for sports figurines in the marketplace,” Wadleigh said. “And there will always be an apparel item in the box. The remaining three to five items will be tied to the theme for a given month.”

The theme for the first month’s crate is “Bring the Heat.” For the Dodgers, that aptly correlates to a Clayton Kershaw figurine.

Beyond the merchandise and other items that are delivered, Sports Crate will provide the opportunity for fans to partake in VIP one-of-the-kind experiences. Still in its infancy, the company is encouraged by the overwhelmingly positive feedback and results.

“The response has been tremendous. We’re providing fans with exclusive items and experiences they can’t get anywhere else,” Wadleigh said. “That has definitely fueled excitement around the product.”
