Fresh off a sweep of the San Diego Padres, the Los Angeles Dodgers (81-47) will attempt to avoid a letdown when they open a six-game homestand against the Colorado Rockies (58-69) on Friday night at Chavez Ravine.

The Dodgers opened as massive -263 home favorites on the MLB odds at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com for the first of three games versus the Rockies despite the fact that they had yet to name a starting pitcher, which has become a common theme (how the moneyline works).

Rockies vs. Dodgers | OddsShark Matchup Report

It has not really mattered who Los Angeles has sent out to the hill lately though, as the defending World Series champions have won 12 of 13 and 16 of 18 after sweeping San Diego. However, the Dodgers have not managed to pick up much ground on the National League West-leading San Francisco Giants during that stretch because their long-time division rivals have won five games in a row, eight of 10 and 14 of 17.

By comparison, Colorado has dropped three of four since winning five straight. The Rockies also sit 25 games behind the Giants in the NL West.

If Los Angeles is going to make up the 2.5 games on San Francisco, Colorado cannot be overlooked in this spot. Kyle Freeland (4-6, 4.25 ERA) will toe the rubber for the Rockies in the opener, and he is 3-0 in four starts during the month of August with a respectable 3.52 ERA.

On Saturday, David Price (4-2, 3.82 ERA) is expected to go for the Dodgers opposite Jon Gray (7-10, 4.13 ERA) before another TBD starter faces the struggling Antonio Senzatela (2-9, 4.42 ERA).

Colorado has managed to beat Los Angeles only twice in the past 12 meetings, and the team had to score six runs or more each time to do it. Surprisingly, the UNDER is 4-1 at online betting sites in the last five games between them and 8-3 in the previous 11.
