Rockies Celebrate Being Only Team To Win Series Against Dodgers In 2020

After years of falling short, the Los Angeles Dodgers finally won the World Series in 2020 by defeating the Tampa Bay Rays in six games.

There have been a lot of great Dodgers teams in recent seasons as they have won eight straight National League West championships. This was their best team on paper and that played out on the field as well.

The Dodgers were dominant every step of the way in 2020, earning the best regular-season record in baseball at 43-17. Although it was only a 60-game season, the Dodgers won every series they played except for one.

That series loss came during a Sept. 4-6 set at Dodger Stadium with the Colorado Rockies taking two of the three games. After the Dodgers won the World Series, the Rockies jokingly took to Twitter to congratulate themselves for being the only team to take a series against L.A. in 2020:

Congratulations to the Colorado Rockies, the only team to beat the Dodgers in a series this year.

— Colorado Rockies (@Rockies) October 28, 2020

That three-game was perhaps one of the only highlights for the Rockies this year as they finished 17 games behind the Dodgers at 26-34, missing the postseason once again.

While only the Rockies were able to pull it off, the Atlanta Braves came close to beating the Dodgers in the National League Championship Series as they led 3-1 after four games. L.A. stayed resilient and fought back though, winning three straight, including a tight Game 7, to advance to the World Series and eventually win it all.

Dodgers relieved Rays went to bullpen

The Dodgers’ comeback win came at the expense of the Rays bullpen that failed to follow a dominant outing from ace Blake Snell. The left-hander was removed after Austin Barnes’ one-out single in the sixth inning, which was only the second hit Snell had allowed.

“It was kind of like a sigh of relief,” Mookie Betts said of the pitching change. “Had he stayed in that game he may have pitched a complete game. I don’t know exactly what would’ve happened, but he was rolling. He was pitching really, really well.

“That was the Cy Young Snell that came tonight. Once he came out of the game it was a breath of fresh air. We’d had some pretty decent at-bats off their bullpen guys, so we figured we could scratch one across since we saw the bullpen guys a little better. Snell, got to tip your cap. He did amazing.”
