The Los Angeles Dodgers completed a comeback win in extra innings, defeating the San Francisco Giants, 6-4, with Will Smith providing the game-winning hit. They have now won 16 of their last 20 games.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto took the mound looking to continue a run where he posted 1.76 ERA with a 0.90 WHIP and just shy of 10 strikeouts per nine innings over his last seven outings. However, the results were the worst he’s had since his disastrous outing in the Seoul Series.

Yamamoto only pitched 5.2 innings, giving up four runs on five hits with two walks and six strikeouts. It was the first start he’s failed to complete six innings or more since April 12, ending a run of four consecutive outings.

Most of the damage came in the second inning when he allowed two singles, and then a three-run homer to Luis Matos. After that, Yamamoto retired 12 straight hitters.

That streak ended in the sixth when Matt Chapman worked a walk, and Lamonte Wade Jr. followed with one of his own. Heliot Ramos then singled to drive home the go-ahead run, putting the Giants up 4-3.

The Dodgers took the first lead with a solo home run from Mookie Betts in the first inning, but after that they didn’t get much going for them until the fifth inning.

Andy Pages hit a leadoff double, and he ended up moving over to third with the help of a wild pitch. Shohei Ohtani then drove home Pages with an infield single, using his legs to beat out a weakly hit ground ball to second base, which cut the score to 3-2.

The Dodgers tied the game in the sixth at 3-3 in the sixth when Max Muncy walked and Gavin Lux smoked a double into center field. In the bottom half of the inning, the Giants re-claimed the lead.

But that lead didn’t last long as Kiké Hernández pinch-hit for James Outman in the seventh, and promptly tied the game at four runs each with a solo home run.

The game ended up going to extra innings, and Smith gave the Dodgers a 6-4 lead with a double to score the ghost runner and Freddie Freeman, who drew a walk.

J.P. Feyereisen pitched the bottom of the 10th, and kept the Giants off the board to record a save.

Dodgers pitching streak extended to 20

The Dodgers entered the game with their pitchers allowing four runs or fewer in 19 straight games, which set a franchise record after reaching 18. That continued and reached 20 games, despite extra innings.

Alex Vesia, Michael Grove, Daniel Hudson, Blake Treinen and Feyereisen all pitched a scoreless outing.
