Will Smith led the Los Angeles Dodgers to an 8-5 win over the Milwaukee Brewers, coupled with some late game heroics from Freddie Freeman.

Smith put the Dodgers on the board first with a solo home run in the first inning. He also hit his second long ball of the game in the third.

It was the third time in Smith’s career he had a multi-homer game, and his second this year.

In the seventh inning, Smith did it again, blasting his third solo home run of the game to tie it, this time off the left field foul pole.

It is the first time in Smith’s career he had a three homer game, and he became the fourth catcher in Dodgers history to accomplish it. He joined Yasmani Grandal, Mike Piazza and Roy Campanella in the record books.

Smith drew two walks in his other two plate appearances, reaching all five times in the game.

With the game tied in the bottom of the eight, the Dodgers worked a rally and loaded the bases. With two outs, Freeman singled home a pair to put the Dodgers up.

Teoscar Hernández then followed with a double to give them an insurance run for Evan Phillips, who closed out the game.

Tyler Glasnow took the mound and started his night with three perfect innings as he seemed locked in and ready to turn his recent cold streak around. However, the Brewers in the fourth inning had other ideas for him.

Brice Turang singled to start them off, and William Contreras worked a walk. A single from Willy Adames put them on the board, along with runners at the corners.

Adames then stole second base and Garrett Mitchell walked to load the bases. The Brewers capped off their rally when Rhys Hoskins blasted a grand slam to put them up 5-2.

Glasnow ended up pitching two more frames, giving the club six innings while allowing five runs on three hits with two walks and seven strikeouts.

While trailing 5-2 in the fourth, Andy Pages opened the inning with a single. He came around to score when Miguel Vargas lined his second home run of the season into left field.

Earlier in the day, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Vargas would get more of a run to start, and the young outfielder has been rewarding the club with positive results thus far.

Tyler Glasnow in mid-season slump for Dodgers

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts discussed Glasnow’s recent struggles on the mound, including the ace going 2-4 in his last six decisions entering this game.

“No, I think the win-loss, I don’t really look at that,” Roberts said. “I think as a team, certainly it matters. I’d love to see the four losses if we scored runs. That’s part of it, that equation. The last one wasn’t good, and I don’t think anyone is going to run from that. But tonight, I think he’s in line for a good one.”
