Corey Seager delivered in another key moment for the Los Angeles Dodgers as they completed a sweep of the Seattle Mariners with a 2-1 victory that extended their winning streak to seven games. The low-scoring affair came one day after the teams combined for 20 runs and seven homers.

Tony Gonsolin dazzled in his third start of the season, further strengthening his case to become a regular member of the rotation moving forward. He retired the first eight batters faced, only to lose the perfect game by hitting Dee Gordon with a curveball on an 0-2 count.

Gonsolin then allowed his first hit when Dylan Moore led off the fourth inning with a single to left field. However, Moore was thrown out by Chris Taylor on his attempt to stretch it to a double. That loomed large as Kyle Lewis also singled, only to be stranded.

The three baserunners were all Gonsolin allowed over six scoreless innings. It tied the longest outing of his carer, which was set against the St. Louis Cardinals in August of 2019. As for this season, Gonsolin now has not allowed a run in 14.2 innings over three starts.

Despite the stellar start, Gonsolin did not factor into the decision. The Dodgers came close to scoring in the fourth inning when Corey Seager led off with a double. Turner’s drive to the wall in right-center field was caught by Lewis.

Gonsolin was later put in position to earn the win when Justin Turner extended his hitting streak to 12 games by pulling a two-out RBI single by the diving J.P. Crawford at shortstop.

It easily scored Austin Barnes, who reached on an infield single. That was Barnes’ second hit of the day and it raised his batting average over .300. He also is in the midst of a seven-game hitting streak, which is tied for a career high.

The usually lights-out Dodgers bullpen was unable to protect the slim lead, as Jake McGee issued a leadoff walk in the seventh and gave up a double. Tim Lopes’ RBI groundout against Scott Alexander tied the game.

Like they’ve done so often this season, the Dodgers responded late to get a win. The table was set by Barnes drawing a one-out walk, and two batters later Seager hit the game-winning single.
