Recap: Dodgers Sweep Braves & Make MLB History As Defending World Series Champion

The Los Angeles Dodgers didn’t put forth their cleanest effort and it compounded Blake Snell’s walks issues, but their relentless lineup ultimately rendered that moot in a 6-5 walk-off win to finish their homestand with a sweep of the Atlanta Braves.

With their sixth comeback win of the season, the Dodgers are now 8-0 as they expanded on their best start in Los Angeles franchise history.

The record previously belonged to the 1981 Dodgers that began their season 6-0 before suffering their first loss.

Only the 1955 Brooklyn Dodgers (10-0) and 1940 club (9-0) had better starts to a season in franchise history. Meanwhile, the Dodgers have now broken a tie with the 1933 New York Yankees for the best start by a defending World Series champion.

There were early trouble signs for the Dodgers in the finale of their homestand as Snell walked two batters with one out in the first inning and they fell into an early deficit on Max Muncy’s throwing error. Nick Allen’s RBI double put Atlanta up 2-0 before the Dodgers could take their first at-bats.

Muncy’s second error of the game put the leadoff man in scoring position to begin the second inning, and after a bunt single, Ozzie Albies delivered an RBI double that turned Andy Pages around and went off his glove. Matt Olson drove in two more runs on his extra-base hit to put the Braves ahead 5-0 before Snell got out of the inning.

Snell completed just four innings, one fewer from his Dodgers debut last week. All five runs he allowed were unearned.

The Dodgers’ comeback effort started in the bottom of the second inning on Tommy Edman’s two-run homer. That gave Edman the team lead of four home runs this season.

Michael Conforto’s solo blast in the fourth inning pulled the Dodgers to within 5-3.

Braves closer Raisel Iglesias faltered in his attempt at a five-out save as Muncy’s two-run double in the eighth tied the game.

Shohei Ohtani punctuated his first bobblehead night of 2025 with a walk-off home run on the first pitch he saw. The opposite-field blast was Ohtani’s second career walk-off homer.

Dodgers miscues

As the Dodgers were attempting to overcome their deficit, sloppy play regularly made it more difficult. Aside from the errors, there were mental lapses on the bases as well.

Among them was Pages getting doubled off third base on a line drive back to the mound. That came after Pages was fortunate to slide past the tag on an otherwise ill-advised decision to go from first to third on a single.

Conforto wasn’t as fortunate on his attempt to follow suit in the sixth inning.

The Dodgers were charged for another error when Kirby Yates’ pickoff throw went off Edman’s glove in the seventh inning, though nothing came of it.
