The Los Angeles Dodgers avoided the sweep against the Houston Astros with a 6-2 win to finish out the series.

Both River Ryan and Spencer Arrighetti were locked in early. The rookie right-handers each worked four no-hit innings to start the game, with Ryan striking out six compared to Arrighetti’s seven.

But the Dodgers finally got on the board in the fifth when James Outman hit his fourth home run of the season, which broke the shutout and no-hitter to give L.A. a 1-0 lead.

Austin Barnes followed with a single, and while he did not end up scoring, it increased his hitting streak to 12 games. That mark is a season-high for the Dodgers and career-best for Barnes.

Ryan also lost his no-hitter in the fifth, but he was able to escape the inning without a run scoring after allowing a leadoff double.

The Dodgers added on to their lead in the sixth when Teoscar Hernández singled and Gavin Lux homered, giving them a 3-0 lead. Lux has been on a tear at the plate as of late as he’s hitting .415/.467/.805 with three home runs in his last 15 games.

Hernández also extended the Dodgers’ lead with a solo home run in the eighth inning that put the Dodgers up 4-2. Cavan Biggio also signed to drive in Gavin Lux for the fifth run of the game.

In the ninth, the Dodgers rallied for some insurance, and it was capped off by a sacrifice fly from Jason Heyward.

Dave Roberts makes same mistake

On Saturday, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts removed Justin Wrobleski from the game in the sixth inning with two outs after he retired Yordan Alvarez. That led to the Astros scoring four runs, and the Astros went on to win the game in walk-off fashion.

Roberts blamed himself for giving the Astros momentum, but it didn’t stop him from doing the same thing again just one day later.

On Sunday, Roberts removed Ryan from the game in the sixth inning with two outs after he retired Alvarez. The end result? The Astros blasting a two-run homer against Alex Vesia.

The decision was puzzling, especially as Roberts has also noted the bullpen is taxed and stressed due to their recent workload.

Thankfully for the Dodgers, the decision ended up not mattering this time around as they were able to pull off the win.
