Recap: Lance Lynn’s Home Run Troubles Doom Dodgers For Series Loss To Marlins

Lance Lynn continued to struggle with allowing home runs and the Los Angeles Dodgers remained in a rut during the month of September en route to an 11-4 loss to the Miami Marlins.

Lynn initially got through four scoreless innings and was provided with a 1-0 lead thanks to Jason Heyward’s 14th home run of the season. But the game came unraveled on him in the bottom of the fifth.

After Jacob Stallings led off the inning with a double, Joey Wendle’s second homer of the season put the Marlins ahead. Lynn walked the next two batters before getting an out, only for Jazz Chisholm Jr. to follow that with a three-run home run to the opposite field.

Jesús Sánchez’s solo blast made it a third home run Lynn gave up in the inning. That also ran Lynn’s season total to 40, most in the Majors.

Victor González allowed two inherited runners to score before he managed to get the third out in what was a nine-run fifth for the Marlins.

Through his first four starts after being traded to the Dodgers, Lynn had a 1.44 ERA and allowed just four home runs. Those have swelled to a 10.80 ERA and eight homers allowed in his last three starts.

Of further concern for Lynn and the Dodgers, he has struggled to induce swing and miss of late, and has one strikeout in each of his last three outings.

The Marlins scored two more runs off Gus Varland in the seventh inning to further break the game open.

Heyward drove a run in on an error and James Outman added a two-run homer in the ninth before Miami could finish out their win.

Dodgers’ magic number to clinch NL West

Because of their loss and the Arizona Diamondbacks defeating the Colorado Rockies, the Dodgers’ magic number to clinch the National League West title remained 10.

The Dodgers remain on track to win the NL West for a 10th time in the past 11 seasons.
