Recap: Freddie Freeman’s 2 Home Runs Help Dodgers Set Season High In Blowout Of Rangers

Led by two home runs from Freddie Freeman, the Los Angeles Dodgers drubbed the Texas Rangers, 16-3, to clinch a third consecutive series on their road trip. The Dodgers set a season high in runs scored for a single game, which previously was 14 against the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field on June 29.

They have now won the first two games of series against the New York Mets, Baltimore Orioles and Rangers, but are yet to sweep a team since the All-Star break.

Marcus Semien’s leadoff home run put the Rangers up in the bottom of the first inning, but that was all they managed to score against Bobby Miller. The Dodgers’ rookie only got through six innings for his longest start since also pitching that many June 10 on the road against the Philadelphia Phillies.

Miller benefitted from the Dodgers turning two double plays behind him, but he couldn’t pitch through traffic unscathed in the bottom of the fifth as Nathaniel Lowe connected on a triple to bring in two runs.

By then the Dodgers had stormed out to a commanding lead and Miller exited in line to earn the win.

After Max Muncy singled and J.D. Martinez walked in the second inning, David Peralta and James Outman came up with consecutive hits that gave the Dodgers a 2-1 lead.

Miguel Rojas slowed some of their momentum by grounding into a double play, although it brought a run in.

Freeman extended the Dodgers’ lead with a home run to start the third inning, marking a second consecutive game he hit a long ball. Max Muncy also homered in the third, putting L.A. up 5-1.

Rangers starter Dane Dunning had been providing length but pitched just three innings and only induced two swings and misses in his outing.

The Rangers going to their bullpen did not stymie the Dodgers, as Freeman hit a two-run homer with two outs in the fourth. Walks by Will Smith and Muncy kept the inning alive for Martinez to break the game open with a three-run home run.

Muncy’s RBI double, a sacrifice fly from Martinez and David Peralta’s base hit further padded the Dodgers’ lead in the eighth. Jonny DeLuca, who entered to get Freeman some early rest, clubbed a three-run home run in the ninth. The Rangers had outfielder Brad Miller pitch the final 1.2 innings of the game.

The bevy of extra-base hits gave the Dodgers plenty of opportunities to unveil their new celebration that was inspired by Freeman’s dancing at the Blue Diamond Gala going viral.

Dodgers lineup outproducing Rangers

The Rangers have the best offense in baseball when evaluating by several metrics, but it has been the Dodgers lineup impressing thus far at Globe Life Field.

Since falling into a 5-4 deficit after Corey Seager’s home run in the sixth inning on Friday, the Dodgers have outscored the Rangers, 23-3.
