Recap: Dodgers’ Winning Streak Snapped By Kevin Gausman & Blue Jays

The Los Angeles Dodgers had their six-game winning streak snapped as the Toronto Blue Jays avoided the sweep in a 3-1 victory to finish out the series.

Kevin Gausman was on the mound for the Blue Jays and kept the Dodgers in check all game. His only mistake was allowing a solo home run to Freddie Freeman in the sixth inning.

For Freeman, that home run means he has homed in the United States against the St. Louis Cardinals, Canada against the Blue Jays and South Korea against the Kiwoom Heroes this season.

Aside from that, Gausman kept the Dodgers off the board for the first five innings, and also the seventh. The Dodgers did have a few opportunities to score, but they went 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position.

Michael Grove made the start in a bullpen game for the Dodgers, and was sharp in his first inning. But after that, he started to run into trouble, as has been the case with many of his appearances of more than one inning.

Justin Turner started out the Blue Jays with a single, which was followed by a double from Davis Schneider. Back-to-back ground outs from Daulton Varsho and Isiah Kiner-Falefa each drove in a run to put the Jays up by two.

While it seemed like Grove was about to get out of the inning with just the two runs allowed, that wasn’t the case as Alejandro Kirk homered to extend their lead to three runs.

After Grove, Alex Vesia, Ryan Yarbrough and Nabil Crismatt combined to hold the Blue Jays scoreless for the rest of the game.

The Dodgers had a great opportunity to tie the game or take the lead in the eighth once Gausman was out of the game as Austin Barnes worked a leadoff walk and Mookie Betts doubled.

After Shohei Ohtani popped out, Freeman was intentionally walked to load the bases, but Teoscar Hernández struck out and Max Muncy just missed a go-ahead grand slam, or at least extra-bases, with Varsho making a jumping catch at the wall.

What’s next for the Dodgers?

The Dodgers continue their road trip on Monday when they begin a series against the Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field. James Paxton is set to start the opener against left-hander Tommy Henry.

Landon Knack and Yoshinobu Yamamoto are the probable starters in the next two games, while they will face off against Jordan Montgomery and a to be determined pitcher.
