The Los Angeles Dodgers had a three-game winning streak snapped in a 6-2 loss to the San Diego Padres, who won their fifth contest in a row.
Julio Urias was knocked around early as he gave up an RBI double to Jake Cronenworth and three-run home run to Manny Machado to put the Dodgers in a 4-0 deficit before recording an out in the first inning.
Urias needed 36 pitches to get through the opening frame, but appeared to settle in from there. He issued a walk in the second and third innings but kept the Padres off the board during that span.
Urias retired the side in order in the fourth inning — his first time doing so on the night — only to then get chased in the fifth when Cronenworth hit a two-run home run with nobody out. Urias’ six earned runs tied a season high and his four walks were the most this year.
In going 0-for-1 prior to being removed, Urias had a streak of collecting a hit or RBI snapped at six consecutive starts.
The Dodgers collectively had little to show for at the plate, with Mookie Betts’ solo home run in the third inning representing their first hit off Yu Darvish. They didn’t have another until Justin Turner’s bloop single put runners at the corners with two outs in the sixth.
Darvish worked out of the small jam without allowing a run and saw his night come to an end at that point. Darvish finished with 11 strikeouts, reached 1,5000 career and became the first pitcher in MLB history to do so in fewer than 200 games.
In three starts against his former club this season, the right-hander has allowed just three runs and collected 29 strikeouts over 20 innings pitched.
The Dodgers had a chance to climb back into the game against the Padres bullpen, only for Betts to fly out on a 2-0 pitch and leave the bases loaded in the seventh inning.
Though it came in a losing effort, Will Smith added to his hot stretch with a solo home run in the eighth.
Dodgers to get Muncy, Bellinger back
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said the team expects to reinstate Max Muncy from the 10-day injured list on Tuesday, with Cody Bellinger poised to be activated Wednesday.
Reks makes debut
Prior to the game the Dodgers recalled Zach Reks from Triple-A Oklahoma City and started him in left field for his MLB debut. Reks went 0-for-2 with a strikeout prior to being removed as part of a double switch.
