Recap: Dodgers Start Homestand With Shut Out Of Padres

The Los Angeles Dodgers snapped a two-game losing streak by starting their homestand with a 3-0 win against the San Diego Padres. After losing six of seven to San Diego, L.A. has now won their last four consecutive head-to-head meetings.

Julio Urias pitched through traffic for most of the night as he retired the side in order just one time over seven innings. He earned a Major League-leading 17th win of the season with the strong outing.

The Padres put two on in the first inning, and had another reach scoring position when Wil Myers doubled with one out in the sixth.

Urias not allowing a run was due in part to Chris Taylor making a pair of impressive catches. The first was a snow cone grab in the gap after miscommunication with Gavin Lux, who started in left field. Taylor later made a leaping catch in center field to rob Manny Machado of an RBI hit and potential home run.

While Urias was keeping the Padres off the board, the Dodgers didn’t collect their first hit until Mookie Betts’ one-out single in the bottom of the third. That was followed by Max Muncy providing them with a lead that never slipped away behind a mammoth home run.

The Dodgers then manufactured a run in the fourth inning after Will Smith led off with a double. He took third base on a wild pitch and scored when Chris Taylor lifted a sacrifice fly to left field.

Blake Treinen allowed back-to-back singles with two outs in the eighth inning before working out of the small jam. Kenley Jansen then entered in the ninth to covert his 31st save of the season.

Dodgers keep pace with Giants

Their loss on Thursday dropped the Dodgers to 2.5 games back of the San Francisco Giants for first place in the National League West, and they remained there as both teams played to the same result on Friday.
