Recap: Dodgers Blow Lead But Tommy Edman Delivers Walk-Off Hit Against Marlins In Extra Innings

The Los Angeles Dodgers blew a significant lead against the Miami Marlins, but walked off in extra innings with a 7-6 victory thanks to the heroics of Tommy Edman.

The Dodgers took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning as Shohei Ohtani singled, stole second base and scored on a single from Freddie Freeman.

Their lead was extended in the third when they loaded the bases with singles from Max Muncy and Miguel Rojas and a walk from Ohtani. Mookie Betts then single home a run, but Freeman, Teoscar Hernández and Will Smith were unable to capitalize with the bases loaded.

L.A. continued to add on in the third when National League Co-Player of the Week Andy Pages singled with one out. He then scored on a double from Rojas to make it a 3-0 game.

In the fifth inning, Freeman worked a walk and Hernández homered, extending the Dodgers’ lead to 5-0.

The Dodgers, however, were unable to hold that lead. After Dustin May tossed five scoreless innings, he went back out for the sixth, and that’s where things fell apart for the club.

Xavier Edwards singled, Jesús Sánchez walked, and Edwards came around to score on a single from Eric Wagaman.

Anthony Banda then took over and walked Connor Norby to load the bases. Dan Myers pinch-hit and launched a grand slam that tied the game, 5-5.

That ended May’s night with 5.1 innings, allowing three runs on five hits with three walks and three strikeouts. Banda ended up tossing a scoreless seventh, ending his night with 1.2 innings pitched, allowing two runs on one hit.

The game ended up going to extra innings as the Dodgers failed to capitalize on their opportunities to take the lead. But the Marlins did not miss their chance with their first opportunity to cash in a run.

With the ghost runner in the 10th, Sánchez doubled against Kirby Yates with two outs to put the Marlins up 6-5. He also advanced to third on a fielding error by Pages, but Wagaman flied out to end the inning.

In their half of the 10th, Andy Pages worked a leadoff walk to put two runners on. Kiké Hernández then bunted them into scoring position and Edman roped a single to drive them home, giving the Dodgers the walk-off win.

Dodgers bullpen game on Tuesday

The Dodgers will be faced with a difficult task on Tuesday as they face off against Sandy Alcántara and utilize a bullpen game with an already overworked group of relievers.

Expect the Dodgers to make a roster move to add a fresh arm prior to the game with Matt Sauer, Landon Knack and Justin Wrobleski among the names to watch.
