Cody Bellinger Leads Offensive Breakout, Rich Hill Dominates As Dodgers Earn Series Split Against Giants

The Los Angeles Dodgers hosted the San Francisco Giants Sunday evening, looking to even the series at two games apiece before heading to Arizona for a three-game series with the Diamondbacks.

They were able to do that, with the offense finally coming alive earning the Dodgers a 9-0 victory over their rivals.

Rich Hill got the start for the Dodgers, and he had it working early as he faced the minimum through two innings. He ran into some trouble in both the third and fourth innings but was able to escape bases-loaded jams on both occasions to keep the Giants off the scoreboard.

The Dodgers bats were quiet to begin the game as Giants starter Chris Stratton took a no-hitter into the fourth. That changed quickly though as Corey Seager and Yasiel Puig led off the fourth with back-to-back singles.

Hill completed his outing with six shutout innings, allowing five hits while striking out five and walking three.

Seager ended up scoring the first run of the game when he tagged up from second to third on a flyout by Cody Bellinger. Puig also attempted to tag up from first, but the Giants caught him in a rundown. They were not able to execute that rundown, with Puig getting back to first safely and Seager coming all the way around to score.

They added to that lead in the bottom of the sixth inning when Chris Taylor led off with a double down the left field line and then scored on a double by Puig. Yasmani Grandal then singled home Puig to extend the lead to 3-0. Bellinger then capped off the rally by hitting an opposite field two-run home run, marking the Dodgers first big fly of the 2018 season.

Tony Cingrani, Josh Field and Wilmer Font were flawless in relief of Hill, and the Dodgers offense added four more runs in the bottom of the eighth, with two of them scoring on a double by Kiké Hernandez, to complete the 9-0 shutout.
