Recap: Blake Treinen Blows Lead To Prevent Dodgers’ Sweeping Giants

The Los Angeles Dodgers held a late lead against the San Francisco Giants, but their bullpen once again cost them, and they were unable to complete the four-game sweep with a 3-1 loss.

Things started out well as Emmet Sheehan was nearly unhittable once again as he continues to show his top-of-the-rotation ability. The right-hander pitched seven shutout innings while allowing just one hit, striking out 10 and walking no one.

That tied Sheehan’s season-high in strikeouts, which he last did on Aug. 25 against the Cincinnati Reds. It’s also his career-high, which he first set on Sept. 27, 2023 against the Colorado Rockies.

But the Dodgers’ offense struggled for most of the game. Giants’ starter Trevor McDonald threw six shutout innings while allowing just four hits.

The Dodgers finally broke through in the seventh inning with McDonald still in the game. Max Muncy started with a walk and Andy Pages singled to put a runner in scoring position.

Michael Conforto then delivered an RBI single to put the Dodgers up 1-0 and chase McDonald from the game. It came just one day after Conforto went 3-for-4 with a home run.

But once Sheehan was out of the game, things went down hill quickly for the Dodgers. Blake Treinen entered and immediately allowed two singles to start the Giants’ rally.

Patrick Bailey then doubled to tie the game and put two more in scoring position. Rafael Devers was intentionally walked to load the bases and set up the double play, but that backfired.

Treinen walked Willy Adames, which brought in the go-ahead run for the Giants. He then got Matt Chapman to ground out, but that also extended the Giants’ lead to 3-1.

The Dodgers were unable to score again to complete another comeback.

Dodgers attendance record

This was the Dodgers’ final home game of the season, and they passed the 4 million mark in attendance for the first time in franchise history.

The Dodgers wrapped up the 2025 regular season with a total attendance figure of 4,012,470, an average of 49,537 fans per game. The previous high for attendance in a year was set in 2019 with 3,974,309 fans. Last year, the Dodgers drew 3,941,251 fans.

This year, the Dodgers have announced 46 crowds of 50,000 or better this season, including 25 sellouts, and have registered at least 40,000 at every home game.
